Describing People (Basically)

General

   beautiful (adj)

Height (= how many metres?) tall, short, medium height
   How tall is Mary?
   He's 1.48 metres tall.
   You are medium height.
   Tom is quite short.

Weight (= how many kilos?)
   How much do you weight?
   The doctor said I am overweight.
   I weight 62 kilos.
   Dolly Ryan is really slim.
   I was very thin when I was in hospital.

Face and head
   Their hair (colour, long, short, beard)
   Their eyes (colour)
   He has green eyes.
   She has brown eyes.
   Harry has a moustache and short hair.

Age (middle-aged, young, younger. old, 15 year old)
   He's middle-aged, but he would like to be younger!
   My grandmother is 97, she's very old.
   My sister is 14 year old, she's young.

Looks (Their looks (ordinary, handsome, etc...)
   My sister is quite pretty.
   She's a very beautiful girl.

Hair

   straight

   wavy (n) gợn sóng

   blond/light brown

Other examples:
He's only one metre 52. He's quite short.
Very young people are often good at basketball.
Models are usually thin.
Is her skin dark? No it's white.
She's only 12. She's very young.
If I eat too much I'll be fat.
My grandmother is in this hospital. It's a hospital for elderly people. (more polite than old)

Special features:

_ The man on the left has got very pale skin (= white skin). He also has broad shoulders, with a small scar at the top of his left arm.

_ The other man has dark skin. He alos has a beard (n- râu cằm) and moustache (n- râu mép) and quite a hairy (adj- có lông) chest and a tattoo (hinh xăm).

Asking questions about a person's appearance:

_ What does she look like? She's quite tall, with short fair hair.

_ How tall is she? About 1 metre 65

_ How much does she weigh? I don't know and it may be rude to ask. Probably about 45 kilos.
