1. What
kind of entertainment do you prefer, TV or radio? _ I definitely prefer to
watch TV because then you not only get to hear, but to see, and you remember
the story better when there’s a picture to go with it.
(Sometimes
I’ll listen to the radio if there is something good on it.
Neither, I
go to the website. I don’t have time for TV or radio and I can watch clips on
CNN.com.)
2. What
programs do you like to watch/listen to? _ I like to watch different soap
operas, and if it’s a series, I never miss one.
(I like to
listen to educational programs; there are so many things you can learn about
nature, language, different countries, and different cultures. They’re so
interesting.
I like
documentaries. Anything factual where I can learn something new and
interesting. You discover a lot of new things, and get a scientific explanation
to everything.
I like to
watch animal shows because I find animals and their behaviors (n- su cư xữ) are
very intriguing (adj-kích thích sự tò mò). It’s surprising at times how much
some animals seem to mimic (v- nhái, bắt chước) behavior you would only expect
from a human being.)
3. How do
you think TV/radio broadcasts in China could be improved? _ It would be nice to
have more variety in both TV and radio here in China. It is getting a lot
better now and looks to get even better.
4. Do you
prefer TV news or news on the radio? _ I prefer news on the radio because them
I am not distracted (làm sao lãng) by the announcer and his or her presence (sự
hiện diện). I like news on the radio also because of the fact that you can get
it more often, on TV it is limited to certain (v-chắc chắn) hours of the day.
(I don’t
like TV news because it isn’t really news. It is entertainment, and it is
biased (v- thành kiến) but doesn’t acknowledge the fact. On radio you can get
more information, and the bias (n- xu hướng) is usually acknowledged. The
internet is best. You can go to multiple sources to find out what you want and
get different points of view.)
5. Do you
read newspapers? _ Yes, I like to read them very much. They are a source of
information for me and I can keep up with my favorite sports team through them.
(I rarely
read newspapers or magazines. I prefer getting my news online or via local
news.
Yes, I
still read the newspaper. I mainly rely on it for local events that are coming
up, or that have just happened recently. There is also a lot of other useful
information in the paper that may not be on the web.)
6. Which
section of the newspaper do you like to read? Why? _ My favorite sections of
the newspaper are the sports section and the entertainment section. I like to
keep up with personalities and what they are doing.
(I read the
local news. There is always something exciting going on. It’s good to stay
informed, especially about things happening in your neighborhood.
I just like
political news/world news. After that I go check out the cartoons.
The local
news, the comics, and the sports. In that order. I also enjoy doing the
puzzles.)
7. Do you
think the Internet will replace newspapers one day? _ Yes, I definitely think
so. I think that as more people have access to the Internet on computers. Paper
will eventually become a thing of the past. It’s quicker and easier to update
webpages on the Internet than to print a whole newspaper.
