There are many common expression with these verbs, and often they are different in other languages, so you need to learn them.

1. Things we make
(a mistake = an error) He made a few mistakes in the exam.
(a meal = prepare and cook S.T) I had to make my own dinner last night.
(money = become rich) He made a lot of money when he worked in America.
(friends) It's not alway easy to make friends in a foreign country.
(a noise) I can't work when the children make a lot of noise.
(pregress = improvement) Her English is good now, she had made a lot of progess

2. Things we do
(homework) I forgot to do my English homework last night.
(the housework) My mother does all the housework in our house.
(study subjects) Did you do English at school?
(a course) I did a one-week course in word processing.
(shopping = buy food) I always do the shopping at the weekend.
(research) He's doing research in physics at Rome University.
(a favour = do S.T to help S.O) I don't have any coffee. Could you do me a favour and lend me some?
(do S.T) I didn't do anything last night. That boy has done nothing all day.

3. Things we have
(a rest = relax/do nothing) They had a long rest after the game.
(food = eat food ) I had steak but Paul just had a cup of tea.
(a drink S.T) Let's have a drink before dinner.
(a bath/shower) I alway have a bath when I get up.
(a party) I'm having have a bath when I get up.
(a baby = be pregnant or give birth) Mary is having a baby next month.
(a nice/great/terrible time) We had a very nice time in Switzerland last year.

4. Things we take
(an exam) I'm going to take four exams next month.
(a photo) She took lots of photos on holiday.
(a decision) I'm not very good at talking decisions.
(a shower) I'm just going to take a shower before lunch.
(a bus/train/plane/taxi) We were late, so we took a taxi to the airport.

The verb to take is extremely useful. It can be used in a number of expressions. Here are 12.
Take (time): The amount of time you "take" to do an activity is the amount of time it lasts.
   How long did it take you to get there?
   _ It took us about 45 minutes.
Take out: if you "take" A out of B, you remove A from B so A isn't in B anymore.
   You need to take the boxes out of the room so there's more space.
Take a photo: To use your camera to capture an image of S.T
   He took a lovely photo of us together.
Take a look; if you "take a look" at S.T, you look at it.
   I think you should take a look at this.
   It is a nice apartment. Take a look and see if you like it.
Take S.O out: if you "take S.O out", you take them somewhere nice (such as a restaurant)
   I took my parents out to a nice restaurant just outside town.
Take a test/an exam: to do a test or exam
   I had to take six tests as part of the interview process.
Take a bath/shower: you can "take" a shower or bath
   I need to take a shower.
Take (shoe size): The shoe size that you "take" corresponds to the size of your feet (more or less)
   What shoe size do you take?
   _ I normally take size 44, but sometimes size 43 - it depends.
Take care: if you "take care" of S.O, you look after them and help them, especially when they're ill.
   He took care of me while I was sick.
Take turns: If you "take turns" doing S.T, you do it first, then S.O else does it after you.
   I think we need to take turns carrying this bag as it's really heavy.
Take a break/rest: to stop doing S.T for a short period of time as it's making you tired.
   This is tiring work. I think I need to take a break.
   I'm tired! I'm going to take a break for a while.
Take a call: if you "take a call", you answer the phone when S.O rings you, or you agree to speak to that person.
   I'm really busy so I can't take any calls for the next half an hour.
Take a chance:
   Take a chance at it. You might win.
Take notes
   Amy takes a lot of notes when the economics professor is talking.
Take a seat
   Take a seat and dentist will call you when she's ready.
Take a taxi
   Richard takes a taxi to work everyday.
